History
Shelby County was named after the first governor Isaac Shelby. Pre-Civil war the 383 square miles were covered in agriculture and livestock. In 1870 Shelby County and Anchorage, KY had a direct railroad line created by the Shelby Railroad Company, which allowed improved access to national markets for local farmers. In 1870 Shelby County was the top hog producer in the state, and was fifth highest for cattle.
