History
Oldham County lines the southern border of the Ohio River on the far east end of Louisville, KY. Oldham County is a very desirable area for the Oldham County school district.
This was at on point in history the western edge of the United States pre-expansion. English families settled in the fertile river and bluegrass ridgelines. While the Germans started vineyards and vegetable gardens. In 1854 the railroad began and would ship produce, livestock and tobacco as well as steamboats along the Ohio River. The river became critical during the Civil war as the crossing point for slaves seeking freedom
Oldham County now holds value in agriculture resources and attracts the thoroughbred racing community, due to it being a close distance from Churchill Downs, and it offers a lot of land.
Among many trainers and farms, one that stands out is the Hermitage Farm which has produced countless winners of the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Oaks, and the Breeders Cup.
